چکیده
In a joint U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA) and DuPont waste minimization project, fifteen waste streams were selected for assessment. The intent was to develop assessments diverse in terms of process type, mode of operation, waste type, disposal needed, and relative success in identifying good waste reduction options. The fifteen case study reports describe the wastes and the processes that produce them, incentives for reducing the wastes, the options generated by the assessment teams, the technical and economic evaluation of the best options, and what others can learn from these efforts. The EPA assessment methodology is compared with that of The suggestion is made that an upgraded methodology The options generated from the fifteen assessments represent DuPont. might combine the strengths of both. practical experience that can benefit others in chemical processing industries. The options were grouped into four types of waste streams: solvent wash waste, solvent waste other than wash waste, waste from reaction byproducts, and tar waste. These options are described so that their suitability to another organization's needs could be evaluated. This report was submitted in fulfillment of the pollution prevention requirements of Section V of the Consent Decree in U . S . v. DuPont, Docket Number: 91cv768(JFG), May 22, 1991. The report covers a period from May 1991 to May 1993.

Background and Objectives: Hospitals usually generate large amounts of hazardous waste. If not managed properly, hospital waste can pose threats to public safety and damage the environment. Waste minimization is a waste management approach that focuses on reducing the amount and toxicity of hazardous wastes. This study pursues a two-fold purpose: 1) to gain insight into hospital waste minimizat...

Industries in New York State and across the United States need to implement waste minimization programs. The highest priority for these management programs is the elimination and reduction of wastes, then, any waste which cannot be eliminated or reduced should be evaluated to determine if any recycling opportunities exist either onor off-site. Due to the complex interaction of production, proce...
